Syllabus - Vocal

1. Refer to General Rules.
2. All selections must be from the RCM 2025 Voice syllabus or the Conservatory Canada 2018 Classical Voice syllabus, unless otherwise indicated.
3. When choosing music from the RCM Voice Syllabi, teachers must choose repertoire from Lists A or B in the levels 1-6 vocal classes, and lists A, B or C in the levels 7-10 vocal classes. List C selections in Levels 1-6 and List D selections in Levels 7-10 are only suitable for the Music Theatre classes in the Chatham Kiwanis Music Festival.
4. All selections must be memorized.
5. Vocal winners of previous years may re-enter the same class, but may NOT perform the same selection with which they have previously won a first place standing in any class.
6. When selecting music for Own Choice classes, be aware that the adjudicator will consider the contestant’s level of ability and vocal style for suitability of selection.
7. Competitors in all classes must be prepared to furnish a purchased score of their selection for the adjudicator.
   The accompanist may use a photocopy as long as a purchased score is present.
8. The Marjorie V. Menninger Trophy, and Kiwanis Trophies for 15, 14, 12 and 10 years and under may only be won twice by the same competitor.
9. Competitors must enter at only ONE age or ONE LEVEL within the vocal discipline.
10. A chord may be given on the piano at the beginning of each unaccompanied selection.
11. Coaching from teachers, parents or others in the audience during any performance may result in disqualification.
12. A male contestant who enters a class with his unchanged voice in January, and who experiences a voice change before the Festival may change his repertoire with written permission from the Committee.

Eligible classes for the VICTORIA AVE. UNITED CHURCH INTERMEDIATE VOCAL TROPHY (Levels 8, 9) are noted with a (T). For further information, please refer to the Senior Trophies section of this syllabus.
